New U.S. commander in Iraq

Feb. 10 - General David Petraeus has taken over as the United States military commander in Iraq.

General Petraeus assumes the job from General George Casey.

Petraeus is charged with implementing President Bush's new strategy in Iraq, just days after a new crackdown against militants in Baghdad began.

Meanwhile a suicide car bomber in Iraq's capital has killed five people in the Shi'ite district of Karrada.
