Bailout deal stalled

(01:58) Report

Sep 26 - A deal to rescue the faltering U.S. financial system stalled on Thursday amid bickering between Democrats and Republicans and accusations of political posturing by Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

As negotiations over an unprecedented $700 billion bailout to restore markets degenerated into chaos, Washington Mutual, the largest US savings and loans bank was taken over by authorities and its deposits auctioned off.
