South Korea stages a major earthquake drill after two strong quakes in September felt in the capital.

NATURAL ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION South Korea staged a large-scale earthquake drill on Wednesday (October 19) in Seoul after two strong quakes near the southern city of Gyeongju in September. About 3,700 personnel from the fire department, police, military and Seoul metropolitan government took part in the drill that assumed an earthquake of magnitude 6.8 outside the capital. Further earthquake related damage including explosions, fire, building collapse, and gas leaks were simulated on a total of 68 apartment buildings. Two earthquakes of magnitude 5.1 and 5.8 jolted South Korea on September 12, according to South Korea's meteorological agency. The 5.8 magnitude earthquake was the strongest recorded in South Korea and 23 people were injured but there were no reports of serious damage, said the Ministry of Public Safety and Security.
