Less than four months ago, Omara Portuondo performed at Fidel Castro's 90th birthday celebration. Since the news of the Cuban leader's death over the weekend, she's been reflecting on his legacy. SOUNDBITE: Omara Portuondo, Cuban singer, saying (Spanish): "I'm really sad about the loss, very sad, but this is the reality of being born and dying. We would have liked to have had him for longer, but that's not what happened. It was his time, and it's a tough loss; very, very tough." Portuondo is just one of several prominent Cubans paying tribute to Castro. Many of the country's sports stars have been recalling their meetings with the revolutionary. SOUNDBITE: Ana Fidelia Quirot, Cuban Olympic Track and Field Athlete, saying (Spanish): "I'm going to remember Fidel very fondly, very lovingly. He isn't here physically, but I'll say it again, he's in the hearts of the Cuban people and those of a lot of countries in Latin American, Europe, Asia, Africa and the whole world. Fidel will be remembered for all of history." The Cuban government has declared a nine-day period of mourning, which started on Saturday. Fidel Castro's funeral will take place on December 4th.
