Polish priest opens spiritual emergency service

A Catholic priest tends to religious emergencies in a small mountain community 24/7, driving a customised Fiat 126. Edward Baran reports.

Facing a spiritual emergency? This Polish priest is ready to help. At the wheel of his customised Fiat, Father Krzysztof Kauf's only ever a phone call away - after setting up a 24-hour hotline for his parishioners. : (SOUNDBITE) (Polish) CATHOLIC PRIEST, KRZYSZTOF KAUF, SAYING "People need a priest who's not locked up inside a church rectory or in an office - but who'll accompany them through the difficulties of everyday life." He says people usually ask for help resolving family disputes, or for comfort in cases of loss. And his dedication hasn't gone unnoticed. The small community in southern Poland chipped in to spruce up his car - complete with a blinking roof light. The priest hopes to one day build a facility where locals can come for long-term support - but till then, he's always on hand to come to them.
