Landslide leaves six dead in Colombia

A landslide triggered by heavy rainfall during the rainy season in Cali, Colombia leaves at least six killed... in a week of tragic events to hit the South American country. Gavino Garay reports.

A sudden mudslide in the central-western Colombian city of Cali hit when residents least expected it, virtually demolishing neighborhood homes and leaving at least six killed. Firefighters said among those killed was a newborn only a few days old. Local media reported the mudslides were triggered by heavy rainfall and swelling rivers. Leidy Rivera says she didn't know what was happening when the landslide came crashing on her home. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) LOCAL, LEIDY MARIBEL RIVERA, SAYING: "I was outside waiting for my husband when I heard the rumble, it was as if they set off dynamite. It was loud, I turned to the side and this wall was falling." Colombia was already hit by tragedy earlier in the week when a plane crashed into a mountain near Medellin, killing 71. In the landslide debris, firefighters say they they managed to save at least three people... offering residents some hope, in what has been a week filled with tragedy.
