East Libyan forces have captured a holdout of their Islamist-led opponents after weeks of resistance. They were camped out here in the so-called 12 blocks, their last bastion in southwest Benghazi. They were killed or arrested when they tried to leave at dawn Saturday (March 19). Dozens of family members had also been in the besieged buildings without food or water, according to humanitarian groups. The Libyan National Army, based in the east, have made big gains over the past year in Libya's second-biggest city. Some of their opponents openly declare links to Al-Qaeda or Islamic State; others say they're simply fighting to prevent a return to authoritarianism. Pockets of resistance remaining in just two northern neighbourhoods now.
