Oscar-winning actor Martin Landau dead at 89

Actor Martin Landau, who won an Academy Award in 1995 for the film ''Ed Wood'', has died in Los Angeles at the age of 89. Matt Larotonda reports.

Actor Martin Landau who starred in the spy series "Mission: impossible" has died at the age of 89. The New York-born actor was nominated for three Academy Awards, winning an Oscar in 1995 for playing the role of Bela Lugosi in "Ed Wood". Landau died in Los Angeles after he was hospitalised for an undisclosed illness. During a long career, the talented actor saw huge ups and downs. During his Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2001, he explained how he got his inspiration. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTOR MARTIN LANDAU SAYING FROM THE PODIUM: "As a little kid growing up in Brooklyn, I went to the movies every Saturday afternoon. And I fell in love with all the worlds I saw up there on the screen, all of the larger than life men and women inhabiting those worlds." Landau won wide acclaim for films by top directors, such as Francis Ford Coppola, Woody Allen and Tim Burton.
