It's only been a matter of days since Air Berlin filed for insolvency but its remaining substantial assets have got competitors queuing up. Front of the line - Lufthansa. It's received government support in its bid with the Germany economy minister saying she'd welcome the move. Lufthansa - Germany's top carrier - cannot buy all of Air Berlin because it would give it a dominant position in the country. But many says it's already ahead of other potential bidders. Ryanair has complained that the process is going too quickly to give others a chance to bid. EasyJet, Thomas Cook and German airline Condor could also be keen. Buying parts of Air Berlin and taking on its staff would give successful bidders access to its takeoff and landing slots at busy airports Including Duesseldorf and Berlin. Air Berlin is being kept in the air for now with a government loan.
