ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) At least 20 protesters were arrested after they marched through an upscale shopping mall in St. Louis, Missouri on Saturday (September 23), during demonstrations against the acquittal of a white police officer in the fatal shooting of a black man. Dramatic video showed clashes erupting between protesters and police at the Galleria Mall after a demonstrator was arrested. The protests followed the acquittal last Friday (September 15) of former police officer Jason Stockley, 36, of first-degree murder in the 2011 shooting death of Anthony Lamar Smith, 24. Smith was shot in his car after Stockley and his partner chased him following what authorities said was a drug deal. Prosecutors argued that Stockley planted a weapon in Smith's car, but the judge believed the gun belonged to Smith. The verdict in St. Louis follows high-profile mistrials or acquittals of police officers charged in shootings in Ohio and Minnesota this year.
